ROBERT LAWSON
I fished out a Robert Lawson etching that a mentor of mine had goven me in the 1990's around when he encouraged me to read The Satyricon. He also gave me some beautifully bound volumes of the wildly exaggerated autobiography of Benvenutto Cellini with illustrations by Dali.
I have been thinking about the Lawson etching and this time. The sad satyrs and other magical creatures departing in woe, defeated in the dark amongst the refuse as the bright deco of a metropolis shines in glory. It is very hard to illustrate light coming from the center or inner part of and image.
